Sam Soon is a recent graduate of New York University's Tisch School of the Arts where she majored in Photography & Imaging and minored in Social & Cultural Analysis (coursework emphasis on A/P/A and Africana Studies). She is 22 years old and calls San Francisco home. In the fall of 2018, she will be returning to the bay to attend California College of the Arts (CCA) for their dual-degree masters program where she will earn her MFA in Fine Art and MA in Visual Critical Studies.
Being born in China and adopted into a Chinese American family, her interest in the intricacies and intimacies of Chinese American culture and history have thus mapped her artistic trajectory. With roots in feminist, decolonial, and critical race theory, her work seeks to make interrogations regarding representation, authorship, and diasporic identity through structures of family archives, time, and memory.
